I HATE IPHONES!! I hate the apps, I hate people saying how great they are and that their life will never be the same again!!! COME ON PEOPLE!... My boss got an Iphone yesterday, He's quite a serious chap but he sat there for hours banging on about how he can use it to play the bongo drums on the damn thing and also how I should marvel that it has a compass on it!!...... A COMPASS!!. I've forgotten the amount of times I have been stuck without a compass, with exception of blackbeard using his iphone to find where on earth he buried that chest full of gold he nicked off that spanish gallion a couple of years ago I cant see much of a use for it... Especially when there is a distinct lack of power outlets on Treasure Island to keep the damn thing operational.
I have a phone, I got it off my mate Yozza about three years ago and its great!, I can make calls and send the odd message and thats about it. I can drop it and it survives, it fits in my pocket nicely and i plug it in once a week for 20mins to charge the battery. I dont need to constantly access my email and if Richard Branson who makes squillions says the same thing I dont know why that many other people really need to either. If Im bored in the car I put radio 4 on, or sometimes I even use my phone to ring a friend and have a chat!!

How he died: He got a nosebleed on his wedding night

How he died: A heart attack....while jogging

Fixx was visiting Greensboro, Vermont when he walked out of his house and began jogging. He'd only gone a short distance when he had a massive coronary. His autopsy revealed that one of his coronary arteries was 99% clogged, another was 80% obstructed, and a third was 70% blocked....and that Fixx had had three other attacks in the weeks prior to his death.

Discovering Beech Caves, Cheshire

Today was my day off, and after having dinner with Hanna i went off in search of some caves that I had heard about, all I new was that they were in a small hamlet in Cheshire called Beech and that before the government crackdown the caves were used for illegal raves!!.
I drove through the village and could not see any sign of the caves, but i noticed a small track that looked unused and decided to follow it in the car, after 5 mins i came across the caves - Brilliant, i was not expecting them to be so big and covered in graffiti, after bumbling around for a while taking pictures i noticed an old chap walking his dog, who told me the caves were actually an old quarry and that during the second world war they were used as storage to protect from air raids.

Things to learn from a lunar eclipse

Lunar eclipses have for a long time been considered a dire omen from the gods, but this astronomical event has also provided people with insights about the universe.

It is a popular myth that the ancients believed in a flat earth. Undoubtedly, commoners often believed this, but educated people have known about the earth being spherical for millennia. As Stephen Hawking explains, one of the earliest known arguments for a spherical earth, put forth by no less a thinker than Aristotle, was the shape of the earth's shadow on the moon during a lunar eclipse.

First, he noted that Earth’s shadow always took a circular bite out of the moon during a lunar eclipse, which would only be possible with a spherical Earth. (If the Earth were a disk, its shadow would appear as an elongated ellipse at least during part of the eclipse.)

Even though quite a bit of heavy math is required to actually predict a lunar eclipse, the ancients, interested in astrology, learned to do it surprisingly early. The more dramatic Solar eclipses could not be predicted easily, but at least by the seventh century BC Babylonian astrologers were able to accurately predict lunar eclipses. Clay tablets describing these carefully recorded events are preserved in large quantities, and since they are typically dated (in the regnal year of the king), lunar eclipse (or "saros") tablets, along with other astronomical observations, allow us a very accurate chronology of ancient Mesopotamian history. Most of these tablets - lots of them - are stored in the British Museum.

Christopher Columbus apparently used his foreknowledge of the Feb 29, 1504 lunar eclipse to fool the inhabitants on Jamaica to cooperate with him and give him supplies. Apparently, he was considered a god for this feat.

You may wonder why the moon turns orange, red or brown during a lunar eclipse. This is because the gases in the earth's atmosphere tends to filter out the shorter wavelength (like blue) while allowing the longer wavelength (red) to go through more easily, and this lights up the darkened moon. This is also precisely the explanation why a sunset is red or orange, and, incidentally, the reason the sky is blue.

After dropping Lee off home, I decided to drive back to Chez Vegas(roughly 45 miles N/E of my current position and hopefully scroung my dinner/tea/supper out of my parents. Having suceeded in the first blag, I called on an old friend and off we went to an old mine, nr Ashbourne/derbyshire - what fun we had - we discovered various abandoned buildings, an old disused quarry, and a cave filled with Spiders and their eggs. Afterwards I had sunday dinner with the folks, followed up by watching point break(which my mum and dad disliked) and then went to bed....

This way if the main server gets too busy you can go to the other server. elgooG uses this idea but instead of an exact replica of the site, it is a mirror image of Google. elgooG was made just for fun and it is free to use. The site is in no way connected with Google.

It interesting that many Chinese started to use elgooG because their goverment blocked the original Google, so this site might not be as useless as it seems. The authors of the site claim that elgooG passed the great Chinese firewall only because it looked like a fun page with no practical use.

So if you are bored with classical Google, try elgooG and you will soon be able to read any mirrored text you see. You decide how usefull would it be to have a skill like that.

Largest Ship Graveyard

The Bay of Nouadhibou, Mauritania, is the largest ship graveyard in the world. More than 300 old ships (most of them 25-50 years old) from all nations were dumped here during last 20 years.

There is no mystery in how those ships got there, for years Mauritanian harbor officers were taking bribes and allowing ships to be discarded in the harbor. The Hubble Space Telescope has taken some really outstanding breathtaking pictures of the universe up to 420 million light years away.

The left picture is one of a galaxy dubbed 'Tadpole', a galaxy 420 million light-years away that was torn apart in a close encounter with a smaller galaxy. Stars and gas streaming away from the larger galaxy give it the shape of a tadpole swimming through space -- a tadpole whose tail stretches 280,000 light-years.

I had a nightmare about this earlier tonight. I was just floating in the middle of space and the galaxies drifted too close. Gravitational fields jolted, planets disintegrated, stars exploded and sonic wind hurtled by silently. I'm both awed and scared beyond belief at the power and magnitude of the universe. This stuff makes me feel so fortunate that we're somehow alive and powerless to defend ourselves.

World Exclusive! Peanut Butter Kit Kats DON’T Contain Heroin

Last year I developed a bit of a ‘thing’ for Peanut Butter Kit Kats. Actually, it was more of a habbit (a really serious habit), and after a while, it got me thinking. Was it really Peanut Butter, or perhaps another ‘golden brown‘ substance?

I mean after all, Nestlé’s marketing of milk formula is still discussed in business schools as an example of bad corporate behaviour. And it’s still current news.

So I began to suspect that Nestlé had gone even further, and was now selling heroin under the guise of confectionary.

But today, I can exclusively reveal that this is NOT the case. Peanut Butter Kit Kats contain no heroin at all. (Which isn’t to say that I’m not 100% certain they don’t contain a substitute - something like methadone perhaps?).

Weather - Englands Achilles Heel

If you live in England, you know damn well what I am about to rant about. If you happen to read news from the UK, then you probably know. If you know someone over here that you've already spoken to, then you most certainly know what I am about to rant about...

Welcome to England chaps. It's February. Winter. Cold. Why the buggery does this country go mental over snow, wind, rain, fog, heat and any other kind of weather? Last night, between 4am and 6am, the heavens opened and the country was blanketed in wet snow. Not fluffy, light powder, but wet snow. And the media went mad, the roads and airports went mad, schools went mad - and on and on.

It's not even 1pm and it's already melting. It wasn't even cold out this morning. Yes, the roads were a bit gross, but with people driving like prats, it's no wonder there were accidents left right and center. And when I say "Accidents" I mean cars skidding into each other at low speeds. Sliiiiiide-bump-shit. The airports in southern England were closed this morning and are slowly reopening.

And now! NOW it's melting, the weather reports are for sleet/rain this afternoon, which will all freeze tonight in cold temperatures. Minus three to minus six centigrade, not the minus double figures some countries have. Anyway, the stuff melting tonight will freeze and create ice everywhere tomorrow. Which means more "Winter Chaos" and more schools closed and more kids off home because parents don't want to risk falling over... Parents put their kids in stupid fricking "fashionable" shoes, and wonder why the kids has wet feet after a hundred yards of walking. It's snow - it's frozen water, THAT'S why!

What is it about England? Honestly, at the risk of sounding like a real old bastard, I remember when I was a kid, we had lots of snow, and we used to trudge to and from school, play out in it at break time, get cold and wet, get a cold, slip and bump out elbows, and people would slog to and from work rain or shine. And yet here we are with a fricking dusting, and it all goes pearshaped. And you can bet it's because of the "ooooh be careful!" Nanny State with people suing everyone else because they fell in the snow. "The council should have gritted the pavements" or "The weather report was inaccurate" or whatever. Junior falls in the playground, it's the schools fault because the kids should be off school. Junior gets a cold - schools fault, heating was too low.

And on and on.

Honestly, I could rant and rave about this for HOURS. What are the British public turning into when four inches of snow stops everything. There were even the classic PANIC BUY BREAD! sorts in the bakers this morning. I'm watching snow melt, and there are people in front of me buying six loaves of bread in case they get snowed in.

Snowed In?! Put your boots on and WALK to the shops fifteen minutes down the road you bloody paranoid idiot.

Come on England, grow a backbone, wrap up warm, drive carefully, and stop wishing Summer were here already. I'm looking at you, gaggle of mothers around the school gate at 8.40am. The very same mothers that were crying about how hot last summer was, and "wouldn't it be nice if we could have some snow".
